Adding music (spinning record)

Not every template includes this element. If you can't find it in your design, your template doesn't have it and you can skip this guide.

Screenshots show one of our templates. Yours may look slightly different, but the steps are the same.

Canva websites can't play audio files on their own, so the workaround is to turn your song into an MP4 video and place it on your website.

Before you start:

  • Canva mutes videos that play automatically, so guests will need to press play. A “Click to play” note over the record makes this feel intentional.
  • For music on every page, add the record to each page. The song restarts when a guest changes page.

Step 1: Turn your song into a video

  1. Open the music upload template to copy it to your Canva account: [Link: Music upload template].
  2. Add your song: upload it under Uploads, or choose audio from Canva.
  3. Delete the instruction text box on the page.
  4. Duplicate the page until the total length covers your whole song. Each page is 30 seconds, so a 2-minute song needs 4 pages. Use Duplicate rather than Add page.
  5. Click Share, then Download, choose MP4 Video and download it.

To change a page's length, click the timing (clock) button in the toolbar.

Step 2: Add the record to your website

Skip this step if your template already has a record.

  1. Open the spinning record template: [Link: Spinning record template].
  2. Select the version you want: plain, or with “Click to play”.
  3. Copy it and paste it into your website design.

Step 3: Put your video in the record

  1. Open your website design on the page where you want the music.
  2. Upload the MP4 from Step 1 under Uploads.
  3. Drag the video onto the centre of the record to replace the placeholder. Zooming in makes this easier.
  4. Preview your website and press play to test it.
