Read this first: how grouping works in your template

Screenshots show one of our templates. Yours may look slightly different, but the steps are the same.

Most sections of your template are grouped so they move, animate and resize together. Here's when to ungroup, and how to regroup.

Your template has been set up so most sections are already grouped. In Canva, grouping links several elements (like text, buttons and images) so they move and scale together.

Only ungroup if you're changing the layout, adjusting spacing or swapping sections.

For everything else, like editing text or swapping photos, keep groups intact.

Canva ties animations and the mobile layout to groups. If something looks off after editing, first check whether it's still grouped.

How to group or regroup elements

  1. Select all the elements you want to group.
  2. Right-click and choose Group (Mac: Cmd + G, Windows: Ctrl + G).

If you need to ungroup

  1. Right-click the group and choose Ungroup.
  2. Make your change.
  3. Regroup the elements straight away.
  4. Preview on mobile to check everything is still aligned.

How to tell if something is grouped

Click it. One purple box around the whole section means it's grouped. A separate purple outline around each item means it isn't.
